Urban transport plays a vital role in keeping our communities connected. For many people, especially those living in busy city areas like Newry, having reliable, accessible transport is the difference between isolation and independence.
That’s why we’re proud to work alongside Disability Action to provide the Disability Action Transport Scheme (DATS) in Newry City.
What is DATS?
DATS is a specialist transport service designed for people who cannot easily get around due to:
Lack of personal transport
Limited or no access to public transport
Mobility issues
Our fully accessible vehicles are equipped with space for wheelchairs and an on-board lift, making it easy and safe for everyone to travel.
Whether it’s for appointments, shopping, social visits, or leisure activities — DATS helps people get where they need to go.
Who Can Use the Service?
To qualify for DATS, you must live in an urban area and meet at least one of the following criteria:
Be registered blind
Be aged 80 or over
Receive the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
Receive the higher rate care component of Disability Living Allowance
Receive the enhanced mobility rate of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Receive the higher rate care component of Attendance Allowance
Why It Matters for Newry
Urban areas can be busy and challenging to navigate — and for those with mobility difficulties, it can be overwhelming or even impossible without the right support.
By offering safe, accessible, and reliable transport, DATS helps to:
Reduce social isolation
Support independence
Provide access to essential services
Keep our community inclusive and connected
