At Newry and Mourne Community Transport, we have the pleasure of meeting some truly remarkable people every day – and few embody community spirit, positivity, and independence quite like Joe Morgan. At 97 years young, Joe has been one of our most loyal and much-loved passengers, using our service regularly for well over a decade.
We recently had the joy of chatting with Joe about his experiences with our service.
“Keeps me alive, prolongs my life and gives me so much pleasure and hope for the future.”
That’s how Joe describes the impact our community transport service has had on his everyday life. For Joe, every journey isn’t just a trip – it’s a lifeline that helps him stay connected, independent, and engaged with the world around him.
Joe has been travelling with us for around 12 to 15 years, and we’ve loved every moment of having him on board. When asked to share a memorable experience, Joe smiled as he recalled:
“The most memorable trip was when I travelled with the beautiful lady Denise. She put her day out to take me personally to my destination.”
It’s moments like these, small acts of kindness, a friendly chat, and genuine care, that make our service more than just transport. It’s about connection, compassion, and community.
A Word About Our Team
Joe is always quick to show appreciation for our staff, recognising the hard work and dedication that go into keeping our service running smoothly.
“A wonderful new manager, Stephen, who is very accommodating,” he said. “I ring the very talented Ciaran and depend on him for making all my travel arrangements.”
Supporting Independence and Wellbeing
When asked what he would do if our service wasn’t available, Joe didn’t hesitate:
“I would be lost.”
He went on to say,
“Most definitely, the service has made me feel very much alive and independent.”
That’s exactly what we aim to do: help people like Joe stay active, independent, and connected with their community.
A True Gentleman
It’s always an absolute pleasure helping Joe get out and about, wherever he needs to go. Whether we hear from Joe himself or his lovely granddaughter Joanne, it’s always a joy to assist. Joe’s warmth, humour, and gratitude brighten everyone’s day – from our drivers to our office team.
We’re proud to have played a small part in supporting Joe’s independence and wellbeing, and we look forward to many more journeys together.
“I most certainly, indeed 100%, recommend Newry and Mourne Community Transport to friends and family,” Joe told us – and coming from aan absolute gent like him, that means everything.
Thank You, Joe
From all of us at Newry and Mourne Community Transport, thank you, Joe, for being such a valued part of our community. You remind us every day why we do what we do – because community transport isn’t just about getting from A to B; it’s about keeping people connected!
