Positive Ageing Celebration 2026
What a fantastic day we had at the Positive Ageing Celebration! With music, dancing, useful information and plenty of craic, the event brought people together for a day full of friendship and community spirit.
Celebrating the Success of the Positive Ageing Celebration
At Newry and Mourne Community Transport, we were delighted to be part of it. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, meet new people and chat about how our service can help people get out and about. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, ask a question or share a story with us. Those conversations are always one of the best parts of days like these.
Local information and a friendly face
Alongside the fun, the celebration gave visitors a chance to find out about local services that could make everyday life a little easier.
There were information stands from Newry and Mourne Community Transport, Alzheimer’s Society, the Age Well group, Ballybot House, the Southern Trust and many more. Visitors could ask questions, speak directly with the people behind these services and learn about the support available in their community.
Sometimes, knowing where to turn is the first step towards getting help. Having so many organisations together in one welcoming place gave people an opportunity to start those conversations, whether they were looking for information for themselves, a family member or a friend.
Plenty of fun and something for everyone!
There was no shortage of activities to enjoy throughout the day. From Tai Chi and line dancing to arts and crafts, visitors had plenty of opportunities to try something different, get involved and have a laugh.
The beauty salon and barbers offered a chance for a little pampering, while the silent disco offered a chance for folks to have a boogie at their own pace. For anyone who fancied taking things at a gentler pace, there was a chance to sit down with a brew or get a bit of food provided by some students at the SRC. You could catch up with friendly faces and enjoy a bit of craic.
The fantastic live performances from the U3A Choir and Danny Doran were another highlight. It was wonderful to see people enjoying the music, getting up to dance and having an absolute blast together.
Why days like these matter
Events like the Positive Ageing Celebration give people something to look forward to and a reason to get out of the house. They create space to meet someone new, reconnect with an old friend or simply enjoy a conversation over a cuppa.
For someone who does not often get the chance to socialise, a friendly welcome and a chat can mean a great deal. Being able to join in, share a laugh and feel part of the community is something we should all have the opportunity to experience.
Helping people make those connections is at the heart of what we do at Newry and Mourne Community Transport. Seeing so many people enjoying themselves was a lovely reminder of why that work matters.
BIG Thank you!
We would like to say a huge thank you to the event organisers for bringing such a fantastic celebration together, and to all the volunteers who gave their time, energy and kindness to help make it a success.
Thank you to every organisation that hosted a stand, answered questions and helped visitors learn about local support. To the performers, activity leaders, students and everyone who contributed to the day, your efforts were appreciated.
Finally, thank you to everyone who came along. Your smiles, conversations and willingness to join in made the celebration so special. We were delighted to have the chance to see and help so many people, and we came away with plenty of lovely memories.
It was a wonderful day for our community, and we were proud to be part of it.
